REVIEW
EXPERIENCE & STYLE:
For nearly a decade, I've been instructing classes at several centers throughout New York City as well as offering private sessions with a personal touch. In addition, every so often, I host a yoga retreat at an exotic locale for the journeyer in all of us.
My slow-flow vinyasa yoga classes range from beginner to advanced.
Private classes are tailored to the individual's needs.
Sessions can be held at your home, gym, place of business, or my studio on East 86th St and 2nd Ave in Manhattan.
Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to share yoga with a wide variety of students including the blind, hearing impaired, HIV-positive, mentally ill, teenagers, seniors, moms-to-be, dancers, the injured, and disabled.
Ultimately, we engage in the practice of yoga and meditation to take responsibility for our own peace, in body and mind. Yoga and meditation are the tools. How well and how often we use the tools determines our outcome. Wellness requires effort, dedication, as well as the delicate balance of rest and appreciation. As we explore our potential and possibilities through the practice of yoga and meditation, we find the process will continually unfold, opening to daily discoveries and heightened awareness.
My classes provide a space where you can enjoy this process, take time for yourself, expand your abilities, and ignite the flame.... Travel landscapes within and without.... Celebrate nature. Your nature.
EDUCATION & INFLUENCES:
I received my 200-hour yoga-alliance instructor certification at
NY Yoga in 2004 under
the tutelage of Michael Gilbert,
David Hollander and
authorized ashtanga teacher
Govinda Kai.
Fortunately, living in New York allows me the opportunity to continually take classes with some of the world's more prominent yoga gurus, such as Dharma Mittra, Sharon Gannon, David Life, Isaac Pena, Dana Flynn, and Cyndi Lee. In addition, I've taken several workshops with John Friend and Douglas Brooks. For more of my influences, see my gratitude page.
Expanding the spectrum, I'm also a certified prenatal yoga instructor, a certified Pilates
instructor, including prenatal Pilates, and an
ACE-certified personal
trainer, since 2003.
In other studies, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at
SUNY Oneonta in 1986 and my Masters in Psychology at Hunter College in 1996.
My Masters thesis,
"AIDS: An Unconventional Perspective" was
published in the Journal of Social Distress and the Homeless in January
1998.
